A live message wall for your bar
Your TVs are already on the wall. A live message wall fills them with what the room is saying, one line at a time.
What a live message wall is
A board is a screen of short messages that your guests add from their own phones. A line shows up within seconds. Guests can vote on lines, and the more votes a line gets, the bigger it grows on the screen.
Each message is a single line. Nobody needs an account, and a name is optional.
What a guest does
The whole of the guest’s side takes less time than ordering a drink.
- They see a small card on the table, with your board’s name on it.
- They scan it with the camera they already have.
- They type one line.
- They look up, and it is on your screens. If the room likes it, it grows.
Your first evening
Until the first guest writes, your TV shows a large square in the middle for guests to scan. You can write up to twelve lines of your own for it, or switch on Let us fill them for you.
From the first line a guest writes, the room takes over. A room with only a few lines says that it is young, rather than pretending to be busy.
To get there, print the A4 poster and the eight table cards from your board, put a card on each table, and open the board on a TV. The guide on putting a board on a TV has the steps.
Keeping it yours
Every line is checked before it reaches the screen. The tone check, which is on for a board ticked as a bar, restaurant, café or shop, is there to keep out lines that are unkind, hostile or selling something.
You can drop your own words in among the room’s lines, at whatever size you like. You choose how long a line stays, from forty-five minutes to two days.
On your phone, one link clears the screen, removes a single line, or stops new messages. It needs no login, so a member of staff can use it too; if you like, you can protect it with a six-digit code.
If you want the screen for your own things only, one switch takes the room’s lines off. They come back by themselves once nothing is on.
More than lines
When you want the screen for something specific, press one of four buttons on your phone: an announcement in big letters, a poll, a quiz or a prize. It is on your screens in seconds, above the room’s lines.
Up to three can be on at once. Happy hour, the match, or which dessert should come back next week: guests answer from the phone they already have.
Put the room on your screens
Make a board, print the cards and open it on a TV. It takes a few minutes.
