A QR code message board for your restaurant

A card on each table and a screen in the room. Guests scan, write one line, and the whole restaurant reads it.

What guests see

A small card on the table carries your board’s name and a square. A guest points the camera at it, the board opens in their browser, they type one line, and it is on your screen in seconds.

No app, no account and no name needed. A guest who is happy to say who they are can add one.

The screen carries a square of its own too, so a guest at a table with no card can scan that instead.

Set it up in four steps

You do this once, from your phone.

  1. Make the board. Give it a name, tick that it is a restaurant, and choose Private, so it is in no list and guests reach it only through your card.
  2. Print the cards. You get an A4 poster and eight table cards, each with the square and the board’s name and nothing from the board itself.
  3. Put the board on a TV, using whichever way suits your screen.
  4. Choose what gets through, and check your screen before the first guest arrives.

The poster is one page and the cards are two more, four to a page. Cut along the lines and put one on each table.

What stays out of the room

Every line is checked before it reaches the screen. A board ticked as a restaurant has the tone check on, which is there to keep out lines that are unkind, hostile or selling something, and you can switch it off or on again in the board’s settings.

Your board is in no list on this site, and no search engine has it. The only way in is the card on your tables, or a link you send yourself.

Specials, questions and your own voice

Put tonight’s special on the screen as an announcement in big letters, or ask the room with a poll: which dessert should come back next week?

A poll takes a question and up to five answers. Guests tap one at their table, and the bars on your screen move as they do.

You can also drop your own words in among the room’s lines, at whatever size you like.

What you never have to do

A screen with a browser is the whole requirement.

  • Install anything.
  • Ask a guest for an account or an app.
  • Collect your guests’ names or email addresses.
  • Have somebody read every line before it goes up.

Put your first card on a table

Make a board, print the cards and open it on a screen.
